Successful applications from the ANRC 2008 round of PhD Overseas Travel Fellowships

Ms Antje Missbach (The Australian National University) whose PhD thesis is Aceh's dispora in transition: Long distance political engagement during and after the conflict in Aceh (1976-2008). Antje will be making a two month trip to the Netherlands to conduct interviews, undertake research at KITLV and Leiden University libraries, and build collaborations.

Mr Paul Mason (Macquarie University) whose PhD thesis is Fighting for Peace of Mind: A cross cultural comparison of fight-dancing in Indonesia and Brazil. Paul will be making a 3 month trip to the Netherlands to undertake archival research  at KITLV, meet with relevant dance groups and practitioners, and consult with academic experts.

Mr Sven Schottmann (Monash University) whose PhD thesis is The 'Islamic State' and the 'New Malays': Islam in the politics of Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad. Sven's trip to the Netherlands will be for 2 months to undertake research at KITLV and consult with academic experts.

Ms Vannessa Hearman (University of Melbourne) whose PhD thesis is Experiences of the transition to Suharto's New Order regime (1965-1971) in East Java. Vannessa plans a 6 week trip to access the archives at the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam and conduct interviews.
